Hello World, my name is Robert Savage and  I am a Software Architect working at AMX®.  AMX® is a control systems company that produces innovative hardware and software solutions for controlling, automating, and managing AV devices & systems.

I have spent many years programming and designing home automation and business control solutions using NetLinx® (a proprietary embedded control systems platform & language), C#, and Java technologies.  For the past 8 years or so I have been leading the development on our premier control systems management solution known as Resource Management Suite™ (RMS).  The RMS product is a Java-based enterpise server solution that provides centralized control, management, scheduling, analysis, and reporting for distributed control systems.

Working at AMX over the course of 12 years has given me the opportunity to expand my development portfolio to include many languages and technologies including C++, Visual Basic, C#.NET, VB.NET, Delphi, HTML, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.NET, Java ME, Java SE, Java EE, and AS3.   Working on the RMS project has also afforded learning oppartunities in developing plug-in integration with many of the leading scheduling and collaboration systems including Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise, and IBM Lotus Notes.    So from embedded systems programming – to backend server – to web based GUI, I have been immersed in all facets control system and enterprise integration solutions.

Outside of work, well … I enjoy snow skiing, water skiiing, woodcraft-carpentry, and of course … home automation.  Home automation and home theater PC's are an avid hobby and I enjoy tinkering and creating new solutions to make life just a bit more automated.  It is this passion for home automation that prompted me to start this website.  My goal is to share reasonably inexpensive do-it-yourself home automation projects and provide the necessary step-by-step instructions, pictures, schematics, and sources so you can build similar solutions for your home.  My goal is to share a new project each month and post the details.   Thank You for taking the time to vists and I hope you enjoy the projects.
